Monster Flowers

I think I've been in science long enough for  my inner mad scientist to start showing. As proof, here's my newest work in progress:

I am, as I think I've established, a fairly girly–girl. By this I mean I like to look soignée, and I like things to look nice. I am, however, not so much of a cutesy girl. Hence, nice looking ribbon flowers with monster eyes. Makes perfect sense to me.

  1. Love 'em! A friend started a sampler quilt, making the log-cabin blocks the way she "knew" how to make them. Which is why they ended up twice the size they were supposed to be. Rather than start over, she increased the size of all the other blocks. But the original delicate applique of peonies wouldn't do. So she created a wild, colorful block depicting Audrey, from Little Shop of Horrors.

    1. In my case, I was making normal flowers for a friend's birthday. Just for fun, knowing her personality, I added in one monster flower. She liked it so much that I've been making a second set of flowers for her that are all monster flowers. It gives me something to do when I get sick of writing my thesis. Which generally takes a solid 5 minutes or so of writing.

  2. Ah, yes, nothing like a crafty diversion to break up the monotony of drudgery. I sew, quilt, and knit. And my day job (copier/printer repair tech) just really gets in the way of the fun stuff.

  3. I think they're quite winsome, not monstrous. They have a flower's version of puppydog eyes. Good luck with the dissertation. I've got two kids working on theirs as well. Just think. In your later years, you'll always have a cure for insomnia. (Actually, I read my husband's multiple times, but I refused to proofread the data sets.)

    1. I've never been able to make myself read my M.S. thesis again...so maybe I'll have to stick to old documentaries for insomnia instead! :) And I think you are a wise woman to refuse to proofread data sets!!

  5. I am happy to report that the recipient of this bouquet loved it, as well as the matching monster pin I made to go with it!
